Vancouver police detective who runs Surrey children's foundation faces fraud and theft charges
Kal Dosanjh, founder and CEO of KidsPlay Foundation, faces fraud, theft and breach-of-trust charges; none of the allegations has been proven in court.

Vancouver Police detective Kal Dosanjh, the founder and CEO of Surrey-based KidsPlay Foundation, was charged Sept. 3 with four counts of fraud, four counts of theft over $5,000 and breach of trust by a public officer. Court records later showed he was in custody until a Sept. 17 appearance in Vancouver provincial court to fix a date.
Court Services Online records list offences on Jan. 13 and Dec. 18, 2017, in Vancouver. A B.C. Prosecution Service spokesperson said the alleged offences occurred between Dec. 8, 2017, and July 25, 2025, at or near Vancouver, Surrey and/or other locations in British Columbia. Vancouver Police conducted the investigation.
Sarabjit Singh Gill is charged alongside Dosanjh in relation to the January 2017 allegations with three counts of fraud and three counts of theft over $5,000. The court ordered a publication ban on Dosanjh's bail hearing, which has not yet been scheduled. Police were expected to release more information about what they described as a 2.5-year covert investigation at a news conference the following morning.
Alliance Lawyers, representing Dosanjh, said he has committed no crime and is innocent of wrongdoing, adding that an arrest or report of an arrest is not evidence of guilt, misconduct or criminal responsibility. Dosanjh founded KidsPlay in 2015. The organization operates programs including sports camps, educational forums, mentorship and community patrols in Canada, India, Colombia and Uganda. None of the allegations has been proven in court.
