B.C. couple rescues great horned owl caught in fence

A Royston couple rescued a great horned owl they found hanging upside down in their fence after its legs became trapped between fence posts.

Cailin Lindsay first thought the animal was a neighbour's escaped chicken, then called for help from her fiancée, Maxwel Hohn. Hohn believes the owl may have been swooping down to catch a squirrel when it became caught.

After freeing the bird, the couple placed it on the ground. While waiting for the wildlife hospital to open, Hohn wrapped the owl in a towel and held it to help keep it warm because they feared it may have been hanging there for some time.

They later put the owl in a box and drove it to the MARS Wildlife Rescue Hospital. Staff told them it would be released into the forest behind their home after rehabilitation. Hohn is an Emmy Award-winning nature filmmaker, and Lindsay films behind-the-scenes footage for productions.
