Robin Nuber was heading to a photo shoot at Redwood Park in South Surrey when he encountered an altercation that was captured on video.

The video shows a man clinging to Nuber’s vehicle as Nuber drives away from another man who was chasing him with a knife. Nuber said they continued driving because the man kept approaching them. After the man stopped pursuing them, Nuber said they pulled over and saw him throw the knife into the woods.

Surrey Police Service Sgt. Lindsey Houghton said Richard Evoy, 37, has been charged with multiple Criminal Code offences, including assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats. Evoy remains in custody.

Police say Evoy, the man he chased and the woman seen in the video know one another, and investigators do not believe the incident was random. Houghton said Evoy was previously known to police through interactions involving property-related crimes.

Houghton said the victim reached safety before officers arrived because of quick action and reversing. Evoy is expected to appear in court Monday.

Nuber said he remained shocked by the daytime incident, but was still able to complete the family photo shoot he had scheduled.
