Richmond boxer wins provincial gold for second straight year
Raincity Boxing Club’s Daya Bhullar, 12, won the under-12 junior A boys 41-kilogram division at the 2026 Boxing BC Provincials and Bronze Gloves tournament, earning provincial gold for a second year in a row.

Daya Bhullar, a 12-year-old boxer with Richmond’s Raincity Boxing Club, won gold again at the 2026 Boxing BC Provincials and Bronze Gloves tournament. He competed in the junior A boys 41-kilogram division for boxers under 12. Hosted by the BC Boxing Association, the championships took place Sept. 26 and 27 at the Chilliwack Landing Sports Centre and showcase high-level amateur boxing in the province each year.
Bhullar faced Victoria’s Marcel VAling in the gold-medal bout. He described his opponent as “strong and aggressive” and said speed, movement and footwork were key to his win. Bhullar trained every day through the summer and entered the competition feeling excited, focused and nervous. “I also knew the competition would be tough, so I didn’t want to take anything for granted,” he said. “I really wanted to win the championship again, but most importantly, I wanted to be proud of how I performed and make my family proud.”
After being announced as the winner, Bhullar said he was thrilled and proud that his training had paid off. Winning for the second year in a row made it even more special, he said. He added that his win would not have been possible without the sacrifices of his parents and family and the help of his coaches.
