Delta police investigate suspicious death after woman found in burned field

Delta police are investigating a suspicious death after a woman’s body was found in a field following an early-morning fire Wednesday near the 6400 block of River Road. Investigators are working to identify the woman and determine how she died.

Witnesses told Global News a white Dodge pickup was stalled in the road near the field at about 5:45 a.m., with traffic backing up behind it. They said the truck later moved slowly off the road and into the field.

A nearby business spotted flames a few minutes later. Someone who went out with a fire extinguisher found a body covered with wood scraps, witnesses said.

Police ask anyone who was in the area during the early morning, saw suspicious activity or has dashcam video to call the Delta Police Department at 604-946-4444.
