Tri-Cities crime severity indexes remain below B.C. and national averages
Statistics Canada police-reported crime data show lower 2025 crime severity indexes in Coquitlam, Port Moody and Port Coquitlam than the provincial and national averages.

Coquitlam, Port Moody and Port Coquitlam all recorded 2025 Crime Severity Index scores below the national average of 75 and B.C. average of 92.4, according to recently released Statistics Canada police-reported crime data.
The index accounts for crime volume relative to population and gives more serious offences greater weight. Coquitlam’s score was 57.1, up slightly from 56.5 in 2024, while its 8,350 reported incidents were about 500 fewer than a year earlier.
Port Moody’s CSI fell from 45.5 to 43.3, with 1,323 incidents reported. Port Coquitlam’s score declined to 50.8 from 72.9 in 2022; its violent-crime severity index fell from 96.8 in 2021 to 47.7 in 2025. The city recorded 3,025 incidents, 178 fewer than the previous year.
Public Safety Minister Nina Krieger said provincial offences declined seven per cent, though the province is continuing work aimed at repeat offenders, organized crime and other serious issues.
