Port Coquitlam breaks ground on covered multi-sport facility
Port Coquitlam held a ceremonial groundbreaking for a $12.45-million covered facility offering year-round sports and community programming. Construction is underway, with completion expected in fall 2027.

The City of Port Coquitlam held a ceremonial groundbreaking on Oct. 5, 2026, for a new covered Multi-Sport Facility. The city says it will expand year-round dry-floor sports opportunities for local teams, athletes and community groups. Mayor Brad West called the project a major investment in sport, recreation and the community, saying it will provide more playing time, programs and year-round opportunities, as well as a community space for residents, local organizations and families to enjoy for generations.
West was joined at the ceremony by Mike Farnworth, members of Port Coquitlam City Council, representatives of the PoCo Saints and project partners. The facility will have a covered, lit playing surface lined for lacrosse, with flexibility for other sports and community programs. It will be built with mass timber, described by the city as a sustainable material that reflects the natural setting along the Coquitlam River. Plans also include change rooms and washrooms, spectator seating, improved parking and site access, walking and cycling pathway connections, and new trees and landscaping.
The project is estimated to cost $12.45 million. In October 2024, the Government of British Columbia committed $3 million toward the facility’s design and construction, complementing previously approved city capital budget allocations.
The site is in the Shaughnessy Bike Park area along Shaughnessy Street. The city selected it from more than a dozen locations reviewed across Port Coquitlam, citing access, connections to the surrounding area and revitalization potential. The city is developing a plan to relocate and revitalize the bike park and says it will share the plan with the community.
Construction is underway, and the first phase of site servicing and grading is nearing completion. Work on the building itself is expected to begin in the coming months, with completion anticipated in fall 2027. More information is available at portcoquitlam.ca/multisportfacility.
