Douglas Rotar, a 73-year-old Vancouver resident who works part-time as a banquet server, won the annual PNE Prize Home draw Monday. Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim drew Rotar’s ticket at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Freedom Mobile Arch in Vancouver. Rotar, who was out walking when PNE president and CEO Shelley Frost called, lives in Vancouver’s West End with his partner, Mark Redmond. PNE staff took the pair to tour the home Monday evening.

The $2.3-million home is in North Surrey at 10100 Elderberry Cres., south of Surrey Bend Regional Park and north of Highway 1. It is part of Foxridge Homes’ Abbey Heights development; Foxridge Homes is a Qualico Company. The 4,117-square-foot home has seven bedrooms and a legal two-bedroom basement suite. Frost said at the May 5 launch that ticket-buyer polling had identified Surrey as a preferred city.

A total of 517,885 Prize Home tickets were sold in person at the PNE and through pneprizehome.ca. Lottery proceeds support PNE non-profit programs, including agriculture, community, educational incentives and arts programming. Langley resident Lloyd Law won $796,290 in the PNE 50/50 draw. The 2026 PNE Fair, which closed Labour Day on Sept. 7, drew 642,149 visitors to Hastings Park, up from 612,404 in 2025. Attractions included concerts at the new Freedom Mobile Arch, the SuperDogs show’s 50th anniversary, Wizard of Oz on Ice, rides and food.
