Richmond RCMP safety outreach reaches 322 e-scooter and e-bike users
Richmond RCMP spoke with 322 people at an Aug. 8 Steveston safety pop-up, the first of three planned e-scooter and e-bike outreach events.

Richmond RCMP say officers and volunteers spoke with 322 members of the public during an e-scooter and e-bike safety pop-up at Steveston Boardwalk on Aug. 8. The event ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. near No. 1 Road and Bayview Street.
The outreach focused on road safety, shared-pathway use and regulations for e-scooters and e-bikes. Residents asked about underage riders, helmets, speeding on shared pathways, insurance and safe operation in public spaces.
Police distributed 101 educational handouts and safety equipment including rechargeable lights, bells and reflectors. Nine e-scooters and e-bikes were registered through Project 529, which is intended to help deter theft and support recovery efforts.
Richmond RCMP said officers also spoke with riders who were not wearing helmets. Further pop-up events are scheduled for Aug. 28 in the Lansdowne area and Sept. 9 near Burnett Secondary School and Thompson Community Centre.
