Alberta visitor’s praise for Vancouver traffic sparks debate online
An Alberta visitor praised Vancouver-area drivers for courteous merging and calmer traffic, but other Reddit users disputed whether the experience reflects typical B.C. driving.

A visitor from Alberta who drove in Vancouver recently praised British Columbia drivers in a Reddit post, citing zipper merging, courtesy and what the writer described as a more relaxed road culture.
The visitor said the trip largely covered tourist areas of Vancouver and West Vancouver, and acknowledged that the experience might not represent driving elsewhere in the region.
The comments drew sharply different views. Some users said Vancouver drivers try to follow rules but do not always apply them effectively, while others singled out Surrey and Richmond in jokes about local driving habits.
The discussion also noted that B.C. and Alberta differ on some road rules. In B.C., drivers may turn left on a red light from a two-way or one-way street onto a one-way street; Alberta prohibits such turns.
