BC Ferries warns of major Sea to Sky Highway delays this weekend
More than 5,500 cyclists are expected for Saturday’s RBC Gran Fondo, bringing closures, detours and major delays from Vancouver to Whistler.

BC Ferries is warning travellers to allow extra time this Saturday as the RBC Gran Fondo cycling event brings major traffic disruptions along the Sea to Sky Highway between Vancouver and Whistler. More than 5,500 cyclists are expected for the event’s 17th anniversary.
From 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 12, westbound Highway 1 and northbound Highway 99 traffic will be rerouted at Exit 2 to Old Highway 99, also known as Horseshoe Bay Drive, before rejoining northbound Highway 99 at Pasco Road. BC Ferries advises customers travelling to Horseshoe Bay to arrive well ahead of their scheduled sailing.
Passengers arriving at Horseshoe Bay before 9 a.m. will be rerouted to exit via Marine Drive through West Vancouver. Eastbound heavy trucks between Horseshoe Bay, Taylor Way and southbound Highway 99 will be directed to a temporary holding area from 5:30 to 9 a.m. Large vehicles will be restricted from Marine Drive during that period.
Access from Georgia Street to Stanley Park Drive will close from 4 to 8 a.m. The Stanley Park Causeway and Lions Gate Bridge will be closed northbound from 5:30 to 8 a.m., while southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane. Further changes and delays are expected in West Vancouver, Squamish and Whistler through 4 p.m.
