West Vancouver Police are reminding parents that golf carts belong on golf courses, not in school drop-off zones, after a local man was stopped while using one on city streets.

Police said the cart was stopped Wednesday in the 2400 block of Haywood Ave. with a minor aboard. The driver had the cart towed and received three violation tickets totalling $765 for lacking insurance and seatbelts.

Police said non-street-legal vehicles such as golf carts also lack necessary safety features including turn signals, brake lights and mirrors. They warned that golf carts are not designed to mix with traffic, including on quiet streets and in school zones. Police said they had attended two elementary schools so far this week and hoped not to encounter the situation again.
