Museum of Surrey to host WinterFest again

The Museum of Surrey will host its annual Christmas celebration for a third year with WinterFest, opening Nov. 21 and running for a month. The museum says the event combines popular offerings from past Christmas seasons and includes holiday traditions, Indigenous programming, hands-on crafts and sensory-friendly experiences.

This year’s programme includes Cloverdale Christmas Tree Fest, Merry Makers, Stalew Craft Fair and Sensory Santa. Cloverdale Christmas Tree Fest runs throughout the month, starting Nov. 21. Local businesses have decorated dozens of trees, and visitors can vote for their favourite. Those who cast a ballot will be entered to win a special holiday prize.

Sensory Santa returns Nov. 28. Children of all ages can meet Santa in a calm, sensory-friendly setting designed for neurodiverse children and their families. The museum says the event is intended to offer a more comfortable and inclusive holiday experience.

Stalew Craft Fair takes place Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Indigenous programming will also be offered that day, celebrating Indigenous creativity and culture alongside the artisan market.

Merry Makers runs Dec. 12 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors can make holiday crafts, search for Santa and his elves, and take part in hands-on STEAM activities for the whole family.

The museum is encouraging visitors to bring a new toy and/or a non-perishable food item to any WinterFest event. Donations will support local charities, with collection bins in the main lobby and reception area.
