Langley School District highlights graduates and school expansion plans
In a year-end message, Superintendent Mal Gill cited record graduation numbers and projects aimed at adding student space as enrolment continues to grow.
Langley School District superintendent Mal Gill thanked students, staff and families in a year-end message, citing work to create a positive, safe and inclusive school community.
The district has more than 2,200 graduates this year, its largest graduating class, and reports a 97 per cent graduation rate, above the provincial average. Gill said continued enrolment growth and the work of staff, families and community partners are contributing factors. He also said this class is the first generation to have learned about Orange Shirt Day and has shown leadership in reconciliation.
The district is one of two in the province still experiencing growth and is pursuing capital projects to add space. Construction is underway on Emery Dosdall Secondary School and stɑtl̓əw̓ Middle, both expected to be complete in September 2027. A multi-classroom addition at Langley Secondary is to open this September, while planning has begun for an addition at R.E. Mountain Secondary.
Gill said the district hopes the additional spaces will ease enrolment pressures and is continuing to work with the Province. He also recognized students attending Summer Session and operational staff who will prepare sites through cleaning classrooms, installing equipment and upgrading facilities ahead of September.
