Construction work planned at Minoru Park
Richmond plans to upgrade the drainage channel south of Minoru Lakes and build a stormwater detention pond at Minoru Park. Work is scheduled to start in October 2026 and is expected to finish in summer 2027, depending on weather and site conditions.

Richmond plans green infrastructure improvements at Minoru Park to manage stormwater from surrounding neighbourhoods, improve park habitat and enhance the visitor experience. The work includes upgrades to the drainage channel south of Minoru Lakes and construction of a new stormwater detention pond. Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2026, with completion anticipated in summer 2027, depending on weather and site conditions.
Once complete, the project will enhance the existing drainage channel and improve the park’s stormwater management system to accommodate increasing runoff from surrounding neighbourhoods and mitigate impacts from significant rainfall events. The new detention pond will capture stormwater and provide a sustainable water source for Minoru Lakes.
The work includes widening and enhancing the existing drainage ditch to increase its capacity while making it a park feature; building a detention pond to capture stormwater and supply Minoru Lakes with a sustainable water source; replacing and upgrading pedestrian bridges over the widened channel; improving pathways for accessibility and connectivity through this area of the park; and adding planting to support local habitat and create a more welcoming environment along the enhanced drainage ditch.
The improvements support the City’s commitment to sustainable stormwater management and innovative, low-impact green infrastructure that strengthens environmental resilience while creating inviting places for people to connect with nature at Minoru Park.
For public safety, the active construction area will be fenced, and temporary alternative routes will be provided. Park users are asked to follow directional signage and posted instructions when travelling through the area.
