Air-quality warning continues across Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley
An air-quality warning remains in effect for Metro Vancouver and parts of the Fraser Valley as wildfire smoke, heat and local emissions raise PM2.5 and ozone levels.

Environment and Climate Change Canada reissued an air-quality warning for Metro Vancouver Regional District areas Friday morning, covering Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, the North Shore, the Tri-Cities, Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge. Surrey, Langley and White Rock are also included, as are Abbotsford and Mission in the Fraser Valley.
The warning cites elevated fine particulate matter from B.C. wildfires, including fires in the South Cariboo and Southern Interior and complex fires near Boston Bar. Ground-level ozone is also expected to rise in eastern Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley because of hot, sunny weather, local emissions and wildfire smoke.
Conditions may continue until the weather changes. Residents are advised to check on people who may be affected, keep windows and doors closed while using air filtration, and prioritize staying cool during hot weather.
At 9:30 a.m. Friday, IQAir listed Vancouver 27th among the major cities it monitors, with an Air Quality Index of 78. The ranking does not include every city worldwide.
