Fingerprints rule out link between Amsterdam’s ‘Lucky’ and missing Vancouver man
Amsterdam and Vancouver police say fingerprint comparisons confirm the unidentified man known as “Lucky” is not John Russell Kenny, missing from Vancouver since 1994.

The unidentified man known as “Lucky,” found in Amsterdam in 2023, is not John Russell Kenny, who has been missing from Vancouver since 1994, police say.
Amsterdam police said the lead was investigated with Canadian police and was conclusively ruled out. Vancouver police Const. Megan Lui confirmed that the men’s fingerprints did not match.
Lucky was found collapsed on an Amsterdam street in May 2023 without identification. Medical professionals concluded he suffered a brain hemorrhage or stroke, and he continues to live with aphasia that affects his ability to communicate. He is now in a nursing facility, while police continue trying to establish his identity and locate people who may know him.
Amsterdam police said a video appeal issued a week earlier generated more than 500 tips and at least nine active leads involving specific names. Investigators learned that he was sometimes called “Chris the Canadian” at a restaurant near Waterlooplein, and witnesses described what they believed was a Canadian or American accent. Police cautioned that this does not establish his nationality. Anyone with information is asked to contact Amsterdam police.
