Surrey Schools is encouraging families to use Fraser Health’s back-to-school resources as students prepare to return to class in September.

The resources for the 2026-27 school year cover mental health, healthy eating, sleep, illness prevention, immunizations and travel safety. Fraser Health’s Healthy Back-to-School Guide encourages families to communicate openly with youth, support mental health, provide nutritious meals, stay active and establish consistent sleep routines.

The health authority recommends that families confirm children are up to date on immunizations. It notes recommended vaccinations before kindergarten and again in Grades 6 and 9. In the Fraser Health region, school-based public health nurses offer immunizations to students in Grades 6 through 9, with information and consent forms beginning in September.

Families can check immunization records through B.C.’s Health Gateway. Fraser Health and Surrey Schools also urge parents and caregivers to ensure they and their children have received two doses of a measles-containing vaccine.

The guidance also advises keeping children home when sick, regular handwashing and covering coughs and sneezes. More school-health resources, including information on dental, vision, hearing and mental-health supports, are available at fraserhealth.ca.
