New outdoor turf fields ready for fall season at Cloverdale Athletic Park
Two new turf fields on the east side of Cloverdale Athletic Park have been completed as the first phase of Surrey’s more than $12-million park improvement project.

Two new turf fields on the east side of Cloverdale Athletic Park were completed last week and are ready for the fall season. They form Phase 1 of a park improvement project valued at more than $12 million.
The multi-use fields, installed beginning in fall 2025, replace two grass fields dedicated to soccer. The City of Surrey said the former fields were often closed after heavy rain, while the turf fields will remain open year-round.
Mayor Brenda Locke said the fields will give children attending practice, local teams competing in weekend tournaments and families watching from the sidelines more opportunities to enjoy sports throughout the year. She said the investment responds to growing demand for quality recreation facilities and supports Surrey’s ability to host sporting events that benefit the local economy and community.
The remaining work includes an access road, a new 110-space parking lot, completion of Surrey United Soccer Club’s covered training facility and a new traffic light. The parking lot, beside the turf fields and in front of the club’s new covered facility, is expected to be completed by November.
A new signalized intersection is also planned at 64th Avenue and 170th Street. The parking lot and traffic light will provide access to Surrey United’s indoor facility, which is expected to be completed in mid- to late September.
The 50-acre park on the west side of Cloverdale includes ball diamonds, a basketball court, a sports box, playgrounds, a bike park, a water playground, tennis courts, washrooms and change rooms, a fieldhouse, and grass and synthetic fields for a range of sports and activities.
