Update: 13 injured in multi-vehicle Highway 99 crash involving semi-truck and bus in Surrey
A crash involving a semi-truck and trailer, a double-decker bus and several other vehicles closed Highway 99 in both directions near the Highway 91 interchange for several hours Friday evening. Two people were taken to hospital in serious but stable condition and 11 others had less serious injuries.

A multi-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck and trailer, a double-decker transit bus and several other vehicles closed Highway 99 in both directions near the Highway 91 interchange in Surrey for several hours Friday evening (Oct. 16). Surrey Police Service (SPS) says the investigation into the cause is in its early stages. Investigators believe the collision happened after a semi-truck with a trailer crossed into the southbound lanes.
In an update at 9:36 p.m., SPS said BC Emergency Health Services paramedics provided emergency medical care to 13 people. Two were taken to hospital in serious but stable condition, while 11 had less serious injuries. One person was transported by air ambulance. DriveBC reported at about 9:45 p.m. that traffic was moving again in both directions.
Earlier, an SPS email update at 7:32 p.m. said one person had been taken to hospital with minor injuries and that no serious injuries had been reported. Shortly after 9 p.m., DriveBC said the southbound lanes had reopened while the northbound lanes remained closed. At 7:30 p.m., SPS said the road was expected to remain closed for a few hours as police investigated, gathered evidence and cleared the scene. A Black Press freelancer at the scene reported seeing several ambulances, including an air ambulance.
SPS said it was working with Surrey Fire Service, BC Emergency Health Services, Delta Police and the City of Surrey to manage traffic and clear the area safely. In an earlier email to news outlets, SPS senior media relations officer Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton said the number and types of vehicles involved were not yet known, nor was the type of bus or whether it had passengers. At that point, police did not know whether anyone had been seriously injured. Surrey Fire Services and BCEHS paramedics were at the scene.
