On the first day of voting in Langley City’s municipal election, 213 people voted in the first two hours—more than the 201 ballots cast over the full seven-hour day at the last election. Turnout in the first three days of advance voting was also more than double the previous election: 1,732 people voted from Oct. 6 to 7, compared with 734 during the first three days of advance voting in 2022, an increase of 136 per cent.

General Voting Day is Saturday, Oct. 17, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Timms Community Centre. Eligible Langley City voters can elect a mayor, six councillors and two school trustees. They can also take part in a separate, voluntary and non-binding Community Opinion Vote on proposed expansions at Al Anderson pool and a performing arts centre at Timms. Curbside voting will be available to anyone unable to enter a voting location because of mobility challenges. Information on how to request it will be posted on the City’s website and outside the voting location on voting day.

Eligible people who are not on the voters list may register at the voting location by completing an application form and declaring that they meet the requirements. They must be at least 18 on General Voting Day, Oct. 17, 2026; be Canadian citizens; have lived in B.C. for at least six months immediately before registering; and either live in the City of Langley on the registration date or have been a registered owner of real property in the City for at least 30 days immediately before that date. They must also not be disqualified from voting in an election or assent voting under the Local Government Act or another enactment, or otherwise disqualified by law.

To register as a resident elector, applicants must provide two pieces of identification proving identity and residency, at least one with a signature; or two pieces proving identity, at least one with a signature, and make a solemn declaration about residency. Photo identification is not required.

Documents accepted as combined evidence of identity and residency include: a BC Driver’s Licence (a combined driver’s licence and Services Card counts as one piece of ID); a BC Services Card, with or without a photo; a BC Care Card; an Owner’s Certificate of Insurance and Vehicle Licence issued by ICBC; a Social Insurance Number card; a Canadian Citizenship Card; a City of Langley property tax notice; a credit or debit card; a utility bill for electricity, natural gas, water, telephone or cable service; a document certifying registration as an Indian under the Indian Act issued by the Canadian government; a citizenship or membership card issued by a First Nation; and a citizenship card issued by Métis Nation British Columbia.
