Vancouver delays Britannia Pool closure until January 2027
The City of Vancouver has postponed a planned Britannia Pool shutdown until after the fall swim season, easing disruption for local clubs.

The City of Vancouver has delayed a months-long closure of Britannia Pool until after the fall swim season, moving the start of maintenance work to mid-January 2027.
The pool had been scheduled to close in November and remain shut until September 2027. The city said it adjusted the schedule to reduce disruption to swim training while completing work needed for the facility's long-term operation.
The project includes maintenance and upgrades to the pool's mechanical, electrical, plumbing and building-control systems. City staff said the revised timing will allow local clubs and swimmers to use the facility through more of their season.
Canadian Dolphin Swim Club treasurer Carola Mansfield said the club's programs run from September through July, so the change does not resolve every concern. But she said a January closure is less disruptive than one in November and said the effect will depend on the alternative pool time the city provides.
Similar work is planned for the Britannia Community Services Centre ice arena, which is expected to close from spring to summer 2027. The city said the pool maintenance is unrelated to any potential plan involving a new Vancouver Canucks training facility.
