Metro Vancouver may see heavy rainfall today, with precipitation expected to continue until this evening. The North Shore is forecast to be hardest hit, while Coquitlam could receive about 50 millimetres, according to Environment Canada. The low-pressure system is likely the start of a period of wet and windy weather.

Environment Canada advises residents to clear storm drains to reduce the risk of property damage. Water may pool on roads in low-lying areas.

Coquitlam Search and Rescue urged backcountry visitors to be cautious this weekend. In a social media post, it said rivers and creeks can become dangerous quickly as water levels rise; trails may become slippery, and washouts or flooding may occur. Hikers should monitor forecasts and stay away from fast-moving water and riverbanks. Some hikes and outdoor activities should be postponed until conditions improve.
