$27.5M in upgrades planned for Newton Athletic Park and Unwin Park
Surrey will invest about $27.5 million in Newton Athletic Park and Unwin Park, adding sports facilities, accessibility improvements and community amenities over the coming years.

The City of Surrey says about $27.5 million in upgrades is planned for Newton Athletic Park and Unwin Park. The funding includes $16.5 million from the city and $11 million from the federal Build Communities Strong Fund.
At Newton Athletic Park, the work will add a turf field and practice area, energy-efficient lighting along the walking track and four new lighted tennis courts. The city describes the park as a year-round destination for athletes, sports organizations and residents.
Unwin Park will receive new amenities developed with public feedback through the Unwin Park Plan. Additional parking, new park entrances and other improvements are also intended to strengthen accessibility and community use.
Construction is expected to begin this summer with the covered sport court at Unwin Park, while many of the remaining improvements will be delivered over the next several years. The city says the projects support its sport-tourism strategy by serving local clubs and helping attract tournaments and events. Updates are available at surrey.ca/parkprojects.
