B.C. urges residents to prepare now for possible evacuation
The Province is urging all B.C. residents to pre-register for evacuation supports and prepare a 72-hour emergency kit as wildfires continue.

The B.C. government is urging residents across the province to prepare for possible evacuation as wildfires continue in several regions and dozens of evacuation alerts and orders remain in effect.
Residents are being encouraged to pre-register with Emergency Support Services, which provides short-term help during an evacuation. The Province says registering in advance can reduce delays at reception centres and speed access to support when an emergency occurs.
People requiring help with basic needs during an evacuation must register online or at a reception centre established by a local authority. The BC Evacuee Helpline is available at 1-800-387-4258. Local governments and First Nations administer assistance for accommodation, food, clothing and incidentals.
The Province says people under an evacuation order must leave immediately and follow local directions. It also recommends an up-to-date household emergency plan and grab-and-go bags containing 72 hours of food, water, clothing, medication and other essentials for all household members, including pets.
The Province notes that people under an evacuation order may be eligible for $200 per night by e-transfer, allowing them to arrange accommodation without first attending a reception centre in person.
