Five B.C. road-trip ideas for the long weekend
A Daily Hive Vancouver guide suggests five destinations for a B.C. Day road trip and urges travellers to check wildfire danger, road conditions and local fire restrictions first.

A Daily Hive Vancouver guide for the B.C. Day long weekend highlights five destinations around the province, while advising travellers to check the provincial wildfire danger rating and local fire-burning rules before leaving. The fire-risk system is updated daily, and campfire bans may apply in some areas.
The suggested coastal trips are Tofino and Port Renfrew. Tofino offers surfing, whale watching and hiking, with a one-way journey of about five to seven hours including a ferry. Port Renfrew is estimated at about 4.5 hours by road and offers old-growth forest hikes, fishing charters and the tide pools at Botanical Beach.
For trips without a ferry, the guide points to Shuswap Lake via Sorrento, about five hours under ideal conditions, with parks, picnic areas and nearby Margaret Falls. Kaslo in the West Kootenay is a longer trip of roughly 10 hours; visitors can see the S.S. Moyie National Historic Site and walk the Kaslo River Trail.
Agassiz, less than two hours away by car, is presented as a shorter option. Its Kilby Historic Site includes camping, a historic museum and farm animals.
