Advance voting in Richmond more than doubles from 2022
Richmond recorded 17,646 voters over five advance voting days for its municipal election, a 141 per cent increase from 2022. Eligible residents can still vote on Oct. 17, when voters will choose a mayor, eight councillors and seven school trustees.

More than twice as many people voted in advance in this year’s Richmond municipal election as in 2022. The City of Richmond said 17,646 voters cast ballots over five advance voting days from Oct. 3 to 10, up 141 per cent from the 7,247 advance ballots cast four years earlier.
Eligible residents can still vote on general voting day, Oct. 17, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The municipal election will elect one mayor, eight city councillors and seven school trustees. Voters can check whether they are registered using the “Am I on the Voters List?” online tool (https://richmond.ca/electionservices/voters/SearchVotersList.aspx). People registering for the first time need two pieces of identification showing their full name and residential address. One piece must include a signature.
On election day, voters must cast their ballot at the location shown on their voter card. The “Where Do I Vote?” online tool (https://richmond.ca/electionservices/votingOpportunities/SearchVotingPlace.aspx) can identify which of the 28 designated voting stations they should use. Voting instructions will be available in French, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Punjabi. Voters who need language assistance may bring a family member or friend to translate, or ask an election official for help.
Accessible voting options are available for people who use wheelchairs, walkers or other mobility aids. Some locations are not fully accessible. Curbside voting will be available at every location, with signs explaining what to do when voters arrive.
In a media release, the city called voting a cornerstone of democracy and encouraged voters to share election information with friends and family, and to share their experiences on social media. Audio and video recordings and photography are prohibited inside voting locations; selfies are allowed outside.
Municipal election results will be counted and posted on the City of Richmond Elections webpage (https://www.richmond.ca/city-hall/elections.htm) after voting ends at 8 p.m. on Oct. 17. The 2026 provincial election will follow one week later, on Saturday, Oct. 24, with advance voting from Oct. 16 to 21.
