Vancouver’s Bayside Lounge to close after 47 years as costs rise
The West End cocktail bar has supported local musicians and artists and welcomed visitors from around the world. An online petition says rising rents and redevelopment pressures are forcing the closure and urges the building’s owner to reconsider the lease.

A classic cocktail bar in Vancouver is closing after 47 years in business. The Bayside Lounge has been a West End staple, supporting local musicians and artists and welcoming visitors from around the world. General manager Danica Walker told Global News that her first reaction when she learned of the closure was “pure shock.” She said many people thought the lounge would be there forever and that the news had been devastating.
An online petition to save the lounge says rising rental costs and redevelopment pressures are forcing the business to close. Petition creator David Millington said the goal is to show the building’s owner that there is strong community interest in keeping the Bayside open, in hopes the owner will reconsider the lease agreement.
In a social media post, lounge staff invited people to come for one last drink and make a memory before it closes.
