Nominations open for Surrey Sports Hall of Fame’s 2027 class
Surrey is accepting nominations for its 2027 Sports Hall of Fame class across six categories and a Community Hero Award. Nominations are due Dec. 31, remain valid for three years, and the next class will be celebrated each June.

Nominations are open for the 2027 class of the Surrey Sports Hall of Fame, which has six categories and one additional award. The Hall launched in 2026 with eight individuals and two teams inducted. Nominations are accepted until Dec. 31 and remain valid for three years; a class of inductees will be celebrated each June. Nominators should be ready to provide a nominee’s sports achievements, community contributions, character, supporting documents, letters of recommendation and other material. Submissions can be made at surrey.ca/sportshall. Questions can be emailed to sportshall@surrey.ca or directed by phone to 604-592-6946.
The six categories are Athlete, High Performance Athlete, Team, Game Changer, Builder and Coach, along with a Community Hero Award. A post on surrey.ca says the Hall aims to honour athletes, coaches, builders and others who have made a lasting impact on Surrey’s sports community.
The first 10 members were celebrated at a ceremony at Surrey City Hall on June 2. They were wrestler John "Earthquake" Tenta; Whalley Little League builder Orest Springenatic; BC Lions football player Terry Bailey; wheelchair tennis trailblazer Sarah Hunter; track athlete and coach Harold Morioka; weightlifter Prabdeep Sanghera; multi-sport builder Cyril William Greenwell; and rugby coach Adam Roberts. The two teams were the Surrey Marlins women’s soccer team of 1990-1993 and the BC Tigers Hurricanes men’s soccer team of 2018.
A display at the Museum of Surrey showcases the inductees. Long-range plans call for a permanent home for the Sports Hall of Fame at City Centre Arena, where a groundbreaking event was attended by singer Michael Bublé and others on Sept. 10.
