The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says four people have now been convicted and sentenced for manslaughter in the 2023 death of Ryan Nagy.

Burnaby RCMP were called to a home on 17th Avenue near Canada Way on June 29, 2023. Officers found 19-year-old Nagy with life-threatening injuries. He died at the scene despite efforts by emergency crews to save him.

Court documents say three men and one woman planned the home invasion in advance to steal firearms stored at the home. Nagy and his girlfriend were tied up and Nagy was stabbed. His girlfriend was found nearby with injuries not considered life-threatening. Nagy’s father returned home and caught the perpetrators in the act.

Rhoda Diabikulu, who was 23 at the time of the offence, was sentenced Sept. 1, 2026, to seven years in prison for manslaughter after pleading guilty in March. She had already spent 12 months in custody. The other offenders, Ali Shamkhi, Rais Usman and Ousmane Keita, were each 20 at the time of the crime and had been sentenced earlier this year. Shamkhi received 10 and a half years on March 5 for manslaughter and unrelated firearms offences; Usman received six years on April 23 for manslaughter; and Keita received six years for manslaughter on June 12. All four received lifetime firearms prohibitions and DNA orders.
