Injured hawk rescued from B.C. highway
Maple Ridge RCMP say officers found a hawk with an apparent broken wing on Haney Bypass near 227 Street and arranged for its transport to a wildlife rehabilitation society.

Mounties in Metro Vancouver say they were called Friday afternoon to a section of Haney Bypass near 227 Street in Maple Ridge to help an “injured ‘falcon’” that was creating a road safety hazard. “Sometimes there’s a first for everything,” Maple Ridge RCMP wrote in a social media post.
Officers found a bird on the road, on a stretch connecting Highway 7 to Haney, with what appeared to be a broken wing. Police said officers, relying on their limited knowledge of birds of prey, carefully moved it onto a nearby branch so it could grip the branch with its talons, then lifted it into an open cardboard box.
Police said a pet ambulance volunteer was called to the scene to transport the hawk to the Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society (OWL). Maple Ridge RCMP thanked the local resident who called, the pet ambulance driver and OWL staff.
Police said officers were told they could take part in the hawk’s release if it is properly rehabilitated. “All in all, a successful raptor rescue!” police said.
