The City of Port Moody will offer free activities at Rocky Point Park on Sept. 19 and 20 as part of Culture Days 2026, a national celebration running from Sept. 18 to Oct. 4. Mayor Meghan Lahti said the events are intended to help the public engage directly with creators and deepen their appreciation of arts, culture and heritage.

A plein air drawing workshop will take place at Rocky Point Pier, Rocky Point Park, on Saturday, Sept. 19. Participants aged 13 and older can choose a one-hour session at 10 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. with Port Moody-based watercolour artist and instructor Olesia Kharlamova, or a two-hour session at 1 p.m. with Port Moody artist, writer and fine-arts instructor Christy Dunsmore. The free workshop requires online registration at portmoody.ca/signmeup: course IDs are 61381 for 10 a.m., 61382 for 11:30 a.m. and 61380 for 1 p.m. Participants will meet at the pier entrance. Using watercolour markers and water collected from Noons Creek, they will learn observational drawing and sketching techniques; no experience is required and supplies will be provided.

Two free 90-minute public-art walking tours will follow on Sunday, Sept. 20. Both begin in Rocky Point Park, at the base of the Moody Street overpass, and end near Inlet Station. Artist Gorlriz Rezvani will lead the 10 a.m. tour in Farsi, while Katherine Dennis, curator of The Gallery at Evergreen Arts in Coquitlam, will lead the 1 p.m. tour in English. Registration is not required. All ages are welcome, although children must remain with a parent or guardian.

All activities will proceed rain or shine. The city encourages participants to walk, cycle, use a scooter or take transit to the park. Updates are available at calendar.portmoody.ca and culturedays.ca, where residents can also find additional Culture Days events hosted by the Port Moody Public Library, PoMoArts, POMO Museum and the Port Moody Foundation.
