Online passport renewal opens to all eligible adults in Canada
Ottawa says all eligible adult Canadians in Canada can now renew passports online, with a 20-business-day service standard for the new option.

Online passport renewal is now available to every eligible adult Canadian living in Canada, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister Lena Metlege Diab announced July 28.
Applicants can submit their renewal application, digital photo and payment online. In-person and mail-in renewal services remain available for people who need or prefer them.
The online option has a 20-business-day service standard. People who need a passport sooner must apply in person at a Service Canada Centre or a passport office offering 10-business-day, express or urgent service.
The online service began as a limited pilot on Dec. 15, 2024, with the department gradually increasing the number of daily applications while monitoring the system.
Eligible applicants must be renewing their own ordinary blue passport, have a Canadian home and mailing address, and meet the regular renewal criteria. Their current passport must have been issued within the past 15 years, be expired or expire within six months, and not be damaged, seized, surrendered, lost or stolen.
