Vancouver police officer denies wrongdoing in alleged theft and fraud case
Kal Dosanjh denies wrongdoing through his lawyer, who questions the independence of a Vancouver Police investigation tied to alleged losses exceeding $3 million.

Veteran Vancouver police officer Kal Dosanjh has denied wrongdoing in a case involving theft, fraud and breach-of-trust allegations tied to reported losses exceeding $3 million. In a statement issued by lawyer Joven Narwal, Dosanjh said he has served the Vancouver-area community for 26 years and will allow the evidence and facts to speak for themselves.
Dosanjh, known for charitable work connected to the Kids Play foundation, was arrested last week during a controlled traffic stop in Surrey, B.C. Vancouver police say their covert investigation, which lasted more than two years and relates to housing developments, followed contact from several alleged victims. Nineteen people have reported losses of more than $3 million between 2017 and 2025, police said.
Chief Const. Steve Rai said last week that the allegations were deeply troubling and could undermine public trust in officers. Narwal said Dosanjh has devoted thousands of hours during his police career and charitable work to helping young people avoid drugs, gangs and violence through sport, mentorship and education.
The lawyer also questioned why Vancouver Police, rather than another agency such as the RCMP, conducted the investigation. Narwal said an internal investigation of a serving officer raises legitimate concerns about independence, objectivity and safeguards, particularly where the department has framed the matter as one of public trust. Vancouver police have said they decided to investigate internally after consulting the RCMP and determining the necessary resources.
Dosanjh said the past week had been difficult for him and his family, thanked supporters, and said he intends to continue supporting the community he has served. He asked the media and public to allow the legal process to take its course.
