'The Debut' to open, 'Wild Horse Nine' to close Vancouver International Film Festival
The Vancouver International Film Festival will run Oct. 1 to 11, opening with Jesse Eisenberg's “The Debut” and closing with Martin McDonagh's “Wild Horse Nine.”

Jesse Eisenberg's “The Debut” will open this year's Vancouver International Film Festival on Oct. 1, while Martin McDonagh's “Wild Horse Nine” will close the event.
“The Debut,” about the competitive world of New Jersey community theatre, stars Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti. VIFF announced its lineup Wednesday, including several anticipated Canadian premieres.
Those films include “Wicker,” starring Olivia Colman as a fisherwoman who commissions a basket weaver to make her an Alexander Skarsgård-shaped husband; “Behemoth,” featuring Pedro Pascal, Olivia Wilde, Eva Victor and Will Arnett; and Hong Sang-soo's “Nowhere to Lay My Eyes.”
“Wild Horse Nine” follows two CIA agents on Easter Island in the early 1970s, shortly before the Chilean coup. The festival runs from Oct. 1 to 11.
