Vancouver woman fined about $104,000 in rental-property tax evasion case
Thi Nhan Nguyen received a nine-month conditional sentence and a fine of about $104,000 after pleading guilty to tax evasion involving a Vancouver rental property.

A Vancouver woman has received a nine-month conditional sentence and a fine of about $104,000 after pleading guilty to one count of tax evasion, the Canada Revenue Agency says.
The CRA said Thi Nhan Nguyen, also known as Lynn Nguyen, evaded about $104,000 in income tax by representing a Vancouver property occupied by a tenant as her principal residence.
According to the agency, Nguyen became the registered owner in 2012 and used the address for correspondence and mail as part of a multi-year effort to support that claim. She disposed of her interest in the property in 2015 without disclosing the sale to her tax preparer, the CRA said.
During a 2017 audit, Nguyen provided misleading information to maintain that the property was her primary residence, according to the agency.
