Missing Squamish hiker found alive after days in mountains
Stanislav Volo walked out with rescuers Friday after being missing since an Aug. 30 hike on the Mount Habrich Loop above the Sea-to-Sky Gondola.

A Squamish hiker who was missing for several days in the mountains above the Sea-to-Sky Gondola has been found alive.
Stanislav Volo set out on the Mount Habrich Loop on Aug. 30 and did not return home, prompting a large-scale search. Squamish Search and Rescue confirmed that he walked out with rescuers Friday afternoon after days in the backcountry.
Volo’s sister said in a social-media post that the family had not yet seen him and was travelling to meet him at the hospital. CCTV footage from the Sea-to-Sky Gondola showed him at the site at about 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 30 before he began the hike.
After he was reported missing, search-and-rescue volunteers searched through the day and into the early morning. The effort involved drones, helicopters, police dogs and volunteers from several search-and-rescue agencies.
Volo called 911 on Sept. 1 to report he was stranded on the mountain. He was ultimately located on Indian Arm Forest Service Road, safely reunited with rescuers and taken to hospital with minor injuries.
