Langley School District trustee Holly Dickinson has joined the Langley Strong slate and will seek a second term in the Oct. 17 municipal elections. She joins sitting trustees Charlie Fox and Candy Ashdown on the school trustee slate.

Langley Strong is seeking to run candidates in both Langley Township municipal elections and school board elections.

Dickinson has taught since 2012 and works in the Surrey School District, making her the only current Langley trustee who works in a classroom. She has served as the board’s vice-chair and represents it on the BC School Trustees Association Provincial Council, the Langley Local Immigration Partnership and the district’s 2SLGBTQ+ committee.

If re-elected, Dickinson said she will focus on advocating for new school construction in Willoughby and other fast-growing district communities, raising completion rates for Indigenous students and students with diverse abilities, and expanding mental-health supports in Langley schools.

She said trustees do more than vote on matters before them: they must press other levels of government when students and schools are not getting what they need.

Langley Strong is led by mayoral candidate Jay Lundgren. Its council candidates are Lauren Chalus, Shumail Javed, Margaret Kunst, Barb Martens, Kim Richter, Teresa Townsley and Blair Whitmarsh; its school trustee candidates are Ashdown, Dickinson and Fox.
