New St. Paul’s Hospital to have 90 secure mental health beds
Vancouver’s new St. Paul’s Hospital will have 90 secure acute and tertiary mental health beds for people needing immediate care during a mental health crisis and patients with complex health needs, Providence Health Care says.

Providence Health Care says the new St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver will have 90 secure acute and tertiary mental health beds. They will serve people who need immediate care during a mental health crisis, as well as patients with complex health needs.
The hospital will also include other mental health and substance use care spaces, including secure areas in the Emergency Department and specialized treatment, recovery and support services. The non-profit says these spaces serve different clinical purposes and are not classified as inpatient mental health beds.
Located in Vancouver’s False Creek Flats, the hospital is expected to open next year and will be twice the size of the downtown location.
