Surrey council candidate Ashiyana Hanif pledges public scorecards and transparent decisions
The Imagine Surrey candidate says she would publish project budgets, timelines and contractor performance, establish a lobbyist registry and hold weekly public safety briefings if elected.

Ashiyana Hanif is running for Surrey council with Imagine Surrey. A 40-year Surrey resident and journalist, she founded Media Waves Live and says she has spent 35 years asking City Hall difficult questions in four languages. Her three priorities are publishing what City Hall spends and delivers, safer streets for seniors, families and small businesses, and transparent decisions without backroom deals.
Hanif focused on accountability. She said that for 35 years she has asked from outside government where residents’ money went and who made the decisions, and that too often there was no answer. Under Imagine Surrey, she said, every major project would have a public scorecard covering its budget, timeline and contractor performance. A lobbyist registry would show who is meeting with whom, and the mayor would give a weekly public safety briefing. Residents would be able to see what is happening, she said, and she would make sure of it.
Hanif said she has held people in power to account from outside government for three decades and would do so openly for residents if elected. Voters can learn more at imaginesurrey.ca, by emailing ashiana@live.ca or calling 604-339-3391.
