Richmond-Steveston MLA Kelly Greene says she will not run in the provincial election Premier David Eby has called for Oct. 24.

In a social-media statement, Greene said she had made the “difficult decision” not to seek re-election. She was first elected to the provincial legislature in 2020 while serving as a Richmond city councillor, and was re-elected in 2024. Following that election, she was named minister of emergency management and climate readiness.

Greene broke with her party in July after the province approved the Tilbury LNG plant. In a letter posted on social media, she said she remains “deeply concerned about the risks posed by the Tilbury LNG shipping channel” and has advocated for better safety standards over the past decade.

She described serving the community as one of the greatest honours of her life. Greene said that although she is leaving her role as MLA, her commitment to the community remains unchanged, and thanked constituents for their engagement, trust and support.
