Cammi Granato is moving into a senior amateur advisor role with the Vancouver Canucks after serving as an assistant general manager for parts of five seasons.

General manager Ryan Johnson announced the change Friday. Granato was hired in February 2022 by former president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford, who stepped down in May, after becoming the NHL’s first female scout with the Seattle Kraken.

Granato said she made the change after reflecting on her position and speaking with Johnson and her family. She said she is especially interested in helping on the amateur side and remains confident in the club’s front-office leadership and its direction.

The Canucks have reshaped their hockey operations department after finishing last in the NHL standings last season. Johnson was hired as general manager, while Henrik and Daniel Sedin became co-presidents of hockey operations.

The 55-year-old Hockey Hall of Famer captained the United States team that defeated Canada for Olympic gold in women’s hockey at Nagano in 1998. In 2010, Granato and Canada’s Angela James became the first women inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
