West Vancouver police impound Corvette clocked 100 km/h over limit
Police say the sports car was travelling 160 km/h on Cypress Bowl Road at night, where the winding route had wildlife in the area.

A Chevrolet Corvette was impounded after it was clocked at 160 km/h on Cypress Bowl Road in West Vancouver on Thursday night, police say. The West Vancouver Police Department said the speed was 100 km/h above the posted limit on a winding road in darkness, with wildlife observed nearby.
Cypress Bowl Road leads to Cypress Mountain Resort and Cypress Provincial Park and includes multiple hairpin turns as it climbs Hollyburn Mountain. Police shared a photograph of the sports car being towed from the scene. The driver received a $483 excessive-speed ticket and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Under the Motor Vehicle Act, excessive speeding means travelling 40 km/h or more above the limit. A first offence can result in a seven-day impoundment, with longer impoundments possible for drivers caught excessively speeding during the previous two years. ICBC says the offence also carries three penalty points.
Police said driving at that speed sharply reduces a driver’s ability to react to conditions, hazards and other road users, substantially increasing the risk of serious harm.
