Port Coquitlam will open the Gates Park Sports Hub on Sept. 21
Port Coquitlam will hold a public ribbon-cutting for its new Gates Park Sports Hub, featuring a multi-purpose turf field and other recreation upgrades.

The City of Port Coquitlam will officially open the Gates Park Sports Hub with a public ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. The event will be held at Gates Park, 2300 Reeve Street, with Mayor Brad West, council members and community partners expected to attend.
The hub replaces an underused grass field with a multi-purpose synthetic turf field for soccer, field lacrosse and other field sports, as well as a dedicated warm-up pitch. The site also includes field lighting, a scoreboard and covered team benches. A 500-seat spectator grandstand remains under construction and is expected to be completed in 2027. Four new pickleball courts are also part of the site and will have a separate ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 29.
Other improvements include upgrades to the park entrance, a decorative plaza, improved sightlines, refreshed pathways, an upgraded access road from Reeve Street and additional parking. The project was developed with local sports organizations, including Port Coquitlam FC (PoCo Soccer) and the PoCo Sport Alliance.
The Province of British Columbia provided approximately $6.7 million for the project, with the remaining cost covered by the City through accumulated surplus funds, with no impact on taxpayers. The City expects the facility to increase field time and amenities for children, youth, adults and seniors, while adding capacity for local and regional tournaments and events.
