Surrey council candidate Meera Gill pledges to support a full-service hospital in Newton
Safe Surrey Coalition candidate Meera Gill says she would dedicate city-owned land on King George Boulevard to a hospital and approve every permit within 60 days.

Meera Gill, a Safe Surrey Coalition candidate for Surrey city council, has lived in Surrey for 33 years, spent nearly 30 years in federal public service and founded the Our Global Village Charitable Foundation. Her top three priorities are a new full-service Surrey General Hospital in Newton, protecting farmland while allowing farmers to sell directly, and zero per cent property tax increases for four years.
Gill said her foundation distributed 75,000 masks in Surrey during COVID-19, when she saw first-hand how stretched the city’s one hospital was. Surrey Memorial handles more than 158,000 emergency visits a year. She also said Fraser Health receives about $800 less per person than Vancouver Coastal, while Surrey’s population grows toward one million.
Gill said she would vote to dedicate city-owned land on King George Boulevard in Newton to a full-service Surrey General Hospital and approve every permit within 60 days. She said her 30 years as a Surrey volunteer and federal public servant would bring practical leadership, accountability and responsible stewardship to city hall.
