Kids face off with Surrey firefighters in charity Nerf battle
The Aug. 29 event at Clayton Hills Golf Course and The Backyard Golf raised more than $3,000 in net proceeds for Surrey Firefighters Charitable Society.

Children teamed up with and competed against Surrey firefighters in a charity Nerf foam-dart battle in Surrey on Aug. 29. Krysten Guilbault and her husband, Chad, organized the Kids VS Firefighters Event through their new mobile business, Phantom Dart Crew Events, raising more than $3,000 in net proceeds for Surrey Firefighters Charitable Society.
Guilbault said it was the couple’s first charity event of this kind, though likely not their last. Supporting the society is personal for her: her father was a volunteer firefighter and worked for Superior E-ONE, a company that built fire trucks. She said firefighters have been pivotal figures and heroes in her life, inspiring the idea of letting local children take on firefighters in a Nerf battle.
The event was held at Clayton Hills Golf Course and The Backyard Golf facilities on Highway 10. One-hour participation slots cost $25, while spectator admission was $5.
As a former youth worker at an inner-city school, Guilbault said she has seen the society’s impact through its snacks program. The school frequently requested food on behalf of students; the program delivers snacks to vulnerable students in the Surrey School District.
