Longtime B.C. NDP incumbent Mike Farnworth is seeking to hold his Port Coquitlam seat. He faces Keenan Adams of the Conservative Party, independent Lee-Ann Bates, Libertarian Lewis C. Dahlby and B.C. Green Party candidate Stephanie Hendy. Farnworth serves as Minister of Transportation and Transit. He has previously emphasized a plan to dramatically increase bus service and add up to nine new traffic-separated Bus Rapid Transit lines.

Adams pointed to his experience as a union leader with Teamsters Canada, saying that “working people deserve a strong voice, both on the job and in government.” Hendy has advocated for more inclusive insulin pump coverage. She previously said she joined the Greens because of their commitment to environmental stewardship and livable communities. Bates is running as an independent; her social media page notes her work as an entrepreneur and emphasizes her religious faith. Dahlby has run several times for the Libertarians and says he is passionate about promoting liberty.

After losing a race in 2001, Farnworth has won six consecutive elections in the riding. The district is bordered by the Pitt River to the east. Westward, its boundary follows Lincoln Avenue to Victoria Drive, then Wellington Street to Mason Avenue at its northernmost point. It then runs south along Oxford Street to Lincoln Avenue and over to Westwood Street. The riding wraps around ƛ̓éxətəm (tla-hut-um) Regional Park, formerly Colony Farm, and is generally bounded by the Coquitlam River on its southeastern side.
