Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in Jasper National Park, Alta., is the only Canadian property on National Geographic’s inaugural list of the world’s 20 best new hotels. The list recognizes new and recently renovated hotels, placing the 104-year-old lodge in the latter category.

The property underwent a multimillion-dollar renovation after the 2024 wildfires, with additions inspired by the UNESCO-designated landscape around it. Its refreshed rooms and lobby feature Beauvert Lake-inspired blue tones, carved wood and natural textures.

The lodge has added three restaurants: Lume, for craft cocktails and plant-forward bites; Elderwood, for locally inspired family-style meals; and The Barbicon, a high-end steakhouse. Accommodation includes lodge rooms and private cabins, while its concierge can arrange kayaking, guided glacier walks and helicopter-accessed foraging and picnic trips.

Outdoor wellness offerings include a cold plunge in Beauvert Lake followed by a barrel sauna. Located within the Jasper Dark Sky Preserve, the resort also has the on-site Jasper Planetarium, which offers stargazing experiences, including northern-lights viewing and solar-system observation through powerful telescopes.

Other properties on the list include Coral Sands Inn & Cottages in the Bahamas, Hanok Heritage Hotel in South Korea and Pinnacle Kigali in Rwanda.
