Work begins on BCIT Burnaby campus accessibility and infrastructure upgrades
Construction has begun on a major renewal project at BCIT’s Burnaby campus, including new walkways, landscaping and underground utility upgrades. Completion is expected in early 2029.

Construction is underway at the British Columbia Institute of Technology’s Burnaby campus on a major project intended to improve accessibility and renew aging infrastructure.
The work includes upgrades to landscaping, walkways and links between buildings, with the goal of making the campus more pedestrian-friendly. Crews will also replace or improve underground electrical, gas, water, sanitary and stormwater systems.
BCIT president Jeff Zabudsky said renewing the services below ground will allow the institute to reshape the spaces above them into a more accessible and sustainable environment for learning and teaching.
Planned work also includes climate-resilient infrastructure, restoration of an urban greenway and a new walkway connecting the student-housing building to the campus core. The project is expected to finish in early 2029.
Anne Kang, MLA for Burnaby Centre, said the improvements will create better places for students to gather and connect. Education and Child Care Minister and acting Infrastructure Minister Lisa Beare said the investment is intended to support welcoming, accessible campus spaces for years to come.
