Coquitlam opens registration for fall city-wide garage sale

Coquitlam is inviting residents to clear out reusable household goods during its fall City-Wide Garage Sale and Giveaway Event on Saturday, Sept. 19 and Sunday, Sept. 20. Sales will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.

Residents can register at coquitlam.ca/GarageSale until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16. Registered addresses will be added to an interactive city map and promoted through the City’s website and social media channels. Participants may choose one or both days and identify the types of items available, from books and clothing to furniture, tools and sports equipment.

The event is open to single-family and duplex homes. Multi-family buildings may participate with permission from the owner, property manager or strata. Since the program began in 2014, more than 2,299 households have taken part, keeping thousands of items out of landfill, the City says.

Apartment and condo residents without yard space can instead take part in the Dogwood Fall Swap and Sale at Dogwood’s Centennial Pavilion on Sept. 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Entry is free for shoppers. Sellers can reserve a table through coquitlam.ca/Registration using course ID 232811 by midnight Sept. 16; tables cost $34.65 plus tax.

For leftover items, the City directs residents to its local donation guide and Waste Wizard tool. Curbside customers can arrange pickup of up to four large items through Waste Connections of Canada at 604-636-3521, while eligible materials can also be dropped off at the United Boulevard Recycling and Waste Centre, 995 United Boulevard.
